Why Work With CIP?

Co-Investment Partners is the leading independent manager of private equity co-investments. GPs choose to work with CIP for the following reasons:

  • Full discretion to quickly commit co-investment equity
  • Early involvement and commitment of resources alongside sponsors
  • Experienced team in a variety of industries
  • International capability with dedicated local teams in the U.S., Europe and Asia
  • No transaction fees sought
  • Flexibility to accommodate changes in transactions and unique deal requirements
  • Continuity of dedicated professionals to ensure the same team from closing through exit
  • Focused agenda since CIP does not seek lending or advisory relationships

When we formed CIP, our theory was that deals were going to get bigger and sponsors wouldn’t be able to do them all by themselves, and yet might be reluctant to share them with direct competitors. We are experienced passive capital and have full discretion to quickly commit.

CO-INVESTMENT SCOPE

Small and Mid-Cap Co-Investments

CIP has invested over $2.5 billion in small and mid-cap companies alongside 112 sponsors across 14 industries. Due to higher potential growth rates, generally lower purchase price multiples, and the opportunity for substantial value creation through operational improvements, we have cultivated many longstanding relationships with premier small and mid-cap sponsors. CIP’s capabilities include supporting GP sponsors in an auction process by providing equity commitment letters in support of bids. CIP is an experienced partner that can conduct parallel due diligence within the sponsor’s deal time.

Large Cap Co-Investments

CIP has invested over $1.8 billion in large cap companies alongside 44 sponsors. We believe that large-cap companies are integral to a diversified co-investment portfolio and represent attractive co-investment targets. Compared to small- and mid-cap companies, larger companies tend to have more established business operations and more stable revenues and profits. We focus on companies that are market leaders and have strong and deep management teams. We partner with sponsors that can help companies to grow organically and through add-on acquisitions over the long-term. CIP regularly participates in pre-bid and syndicated co-investment processes and can react quickly to opportunities that fit our investment criteria.

International Co-Investments

CIP has invested over $1.0 billion in non-US companies alongside 47 sponsors. CIP believes that in addition to the US, attractive buyout opportunities can be found globally. Europe represents a mature private equity landscape accompanied by liquid capital markets. Asia and Latin America are more nascent markets with attractive high-growth investment opportunities. CIP’s team in London actively covers the pan-European sponsor universe while CIP leverages Lexington’s offices in Hong Kong and Santiago to pursue emerging market opportunities. CIP seeks to invest alongside leading GPs that have established track records in their local markets.
